Thank you for your kind note from the E.S.U. I hope the doctor’s report was, or will be, cheering. My goodness how stupid of me, of course, it was & still is a topaz. As Scorpion women are accustomed to authority, I shall obey you to the best of my ability, & I hope that this order means that you have been doing some shopping.
This was really to say that my doctor says I may go out on Friday, and to Chichester Saturday. He has given me some lovely stuff to put up the nose – called ENDRINE. If you should get a cold in your blessed nose or sinus do try it. Most soothing. Extracted from the Ma Huang, a plant known to the Chinese for its medicinal properties for the last 5000 years, & nogames, diversions'Go' (Wei-Ki);a6 doubt beneficial to players of Wei Ki. But you must keep well because I want some nice parties when you return.
ThereHale, Emilyreading;w8F&F thriller;a5 is no innuendo in the title of the novel. It is a good thriller, and I wrote the jacket notice. 1
1.There is no innuendo in any of the titles of the detective novels published by F&F this season. EH was probably referring to the slight ambiguity of the title The Divorce Court Murder, by Milton Propper; this is the jacket notice:
No writer of murder tales excels Milton Propper in the construction of an intricate yet realistic story. The author of – And Then Silence and The Ticker Tape Murder has here written an ingenious tale for people who like a stimulating and teasing problem.
The trouble started in the private office of Mr Dawson, the solicitor. Six people were discussing the case of Rowland v. Rowland, and four of those people were angry. Mrs Rowland and her lawyer objected to the introduction of new evidence and a new witness. The new witness was ordered to be brought in. She had been waiting in the next room, but when called for there was no reply. She was dead.
Thus began a sensational investigation which involved one of the town’s most respected families. It led to scandal, intrigue, and affair in a road-house, and finally to a startling solution.
