[? 3 August 1935]
ThisFabers, the1935 summer holiday with;c5 is, I fear, only a note to explain my not writing at length. I am being entertained, and this, though small, is a house-party: so that I have played tennis & bathed this morning, and am writing in an interval of a few minutes between sitting to the children for my portrait, & playing golf.
Your dear letter came this morning – I am glad to find that the posts are so quick, as I had not expected that you would have had my letter so soon. I miss you exceedingly, so perhaps it is as well that I should be kept very busy and made to take a great deal of exercise. It is strange to think of your ever having been at your worst, as you say, with me! but I am glad to think that I have at some time known the worst – I had rather be with you at your worst than with anyone else at their best. (It was still odder of you to suggest that I might object to your taking too possessive an attitude![)]
I fear I may not be able to write a proper letter till my return to town on Thursday or Friday. TheMorleys, the;e8 Morleys I know will want to drive straight back, as Christina will have to do all the driving. On the other hand, I shall take an hour at the typewriter if I can get it.
