I shall address this to Dorset, as you will certainly be there by the time this arrives. I want you to know that I am thinking, and shall be thinking constantly, of your task in this most difficult part under most difficult conditions. IHale, Emilyas actor;v8in Kind Lady;d4 am sure that you will get through it wonderfully and with great success, and that it will be even one of your greatest triumphs; and I only wish that the performance might have a larger and more expert audience than the neighbourhood can provide. I hope that it may give you new assurance of power, and not leave you quite exhausted. I have not liked to think of Petersham: at Dorset, at least, I can think of the professional success. And I hope that it will be a good and a congenial company you have to act with.
I still have to struggle against a great lethargy, and a lack of interest in all that I am doing. Iappearance (TSE's)hernia;b9deferred operation for;a2 am glad, at the moment, to have the distraction of the operation and its conditions. I shall write again before I go, and a line by hand a day or so afterwards. The operation is nothing: I almost envy those you [sc. who] have had to learn to live with physical suffering, day by day, and do their work and serve others none the less.
