IHale, Emilyas actor;v8in Kind Lady;d4 was very glad to get your letter of July 29 – and so very quickly considering that it came from a remote place. You write of the play in a very subdued tone, but I am sure that it was a success – if only there were those in the audience capable of appraising your work. AndElsmith, Dorothy Olcottattends Kind Lady;b7 I am glad that you have lodgings less remo te, and that Dorothy E was able to come to see you act.
Iappearance (TSE's)hernia;b9deferred operation for;a2 had my second operation four days ago, but have not yet felt up to writing any letters until today. From the surgeon’s point of view, a much simpler operation than the first. From my point of view, more exhausting, simply because it was the second. Fortunately the weather has been very warm. No doubt I shall be much the better for this, but I think that complete convalescence will take some weeks. IFabers, the1947 Minsted summer stay;h4 expect to be sent home on Saturday, and go to the Fabers for about 10 days on the 15th, as Dick Faber will be leaving here then and we can share a car. 5.PaulStephenson, Paul Stephenson (1898–1974), theatre director – he worked for various theatres, with seasons at the Central City Opera House, Colorado (where he directed Lillian Gish in Camille), and at the Brattleboro Theater Group, Vermont – was first engaged for the summer season at the Dorset Players, Vermont in 1939–40, After war service in the Marine Corps, he returned to the Dorset Players for the summers of 1946 and 1947. But box office takings during 1947 were so poor that the final shows were cancelled: Stephenson was not asked back for the summer of 1948.
