[35 School St., Andover, Mass.]
This is just to let you know that I have been returned from the Clinic, where I was very well looked after indeed; that I have been examined since by the doctor and the surgeon who pronounced themselves satisfied with my progress. It was more tedious and longer, and indeed at times more painful, than I had expected; but I am so far very well satisfied, and expect to be much better for it. I find that I tire easily – indeed, since I have been back at home, I have done nothing beyond taking my walk every morning and performing the exercises imposed upon me by the surgeon. I have about twenty letters to write to thank people who have enquired or sent flowers; and oh dear how many arrears of business to make up. Itravels, trips and plansTSE's spring 1951 trip to Spain;h3;a3 shall write again before leaving for Spain – and I have not the slightest desire to go abroad, I dread it: either I feel too inert to want to move, or, if I feel more energetic, I grudge the time spent in travel instead of getting on with work. I hope that I shall have another letter from you soon.
