Theresa Eliot to T. S. Eliot
DearHale, Emilycorrespondence with TSE;w3TSE encouraged to return EH's letters;j8 TomEliot, Theresa Garrett (TSE's sister-in-law)on whether to return EH's letters;h7: ItEliot, Esmé Valerie (née Fletcher, TSE's second wife)and the Hale letters;c9 seems to me best that you return to Emily those letters of hers, and do not be distressed over how the possible publication, or accession to them would affect dear Valerie in the slightest degree. It would be to E’s discredit and she is very unwise to have kept the letters. I think her mind is affected. It is good that you had a long friendship with her and natural. SheEliot, Henry Ware, Jr. (TSE's brother)on TSE's love for EH;m3 was a link with your youth, and Henry said you were nostalgic, being in a new country. I thank God you had the courage to let it end at friendship only.
ShePerkins, Edith (EH's aunt)her legacy to EH;p6 was not fond of her aunt, indeed, went off to England and left her when she was so sick, and she seldom went to see her on her return. I hear she is surprised over how much money was left her.1
SoHale, Emilyreligious beliefs and practices;x1the issue of communion;a8 glad you feel as I do about her communicating in Anglican churches. ShePerkins, Dr John Carroll (EH's uncle)apparently communicated in Anglican churches;j8 said her uncle did, in England.
I am disappointed that Eleanor and Mabel decline to accept Power of Attorney for me, and so is Mr Angevin surprised. He is asking the Harvard Trust if they would and said that they would charge less than his firm, but if they wouldn’t, he would himself. I can leave him money in my will, if he does. I have had capital gains, as stocks were bought in 1947, when market was low.
A lovely calendar came from you yesterday, and I shall enjoy it all 1960. ThankEliot, Esmé Valerie (née Fletcher, TSE's second wife)Theresa on TSE's relations with;d1 you and Dear Valerie. I will write her about it. Yes, you know what real Love is now and I rejoice for you. Happy Christmas. Maybe you will come over Next Christmas, I will have a little tree, as Henry used to have. Now, don’t think about that horrid woman.
