Brian Teare wins Four Quartets Prize

Brian Teare, winner of Four Quartets Prize

Brian Teare has won this year’s Four Quartets Prize for his poem “Toxics Release Inventory (Essay on Man)”, with Ilya Kaminsky (Deaf Republic) and Prageeta Sharma (Grief Sequence) announced as fellow finalists. The prize, presented by the T. S. Eliot Foundation in partnership with the Poetry Society of America, is for a unified and complete sequence of poems published in America in a print or online journal, chapbook, or book.

Judges Cyrus Cassells, Forrest Gander, and Maureen McLane praised Teare for ‘both a brilliant inventorying and a fiercely alert sauntering, openhearted and intermittently devastated, charting a path toward a great democracy of attentiveness and a committed, disabused persistence.’ Read more about this year’s prize here.
