How do poets feel about being shortlisted for and in some cases winning the T. S. Eliot Prize? What impact does it have on their writing and their careers?

Find out in the exciting new series of podcasts Nick Makoha has curated for WritersMosaic, the Royal Literary Fund’s innovative online and print magazine for new writing.

Seven poets – Ella Frears, Sarah Howe, Hannah Lowe, James Conor Patterson, Roger Robinson and Joelle Taylor – have contributed, along with Nick Makoha himself (a judge of the T. S. Eliot Prize 2019 and shortlisted in 2025 for The New Carthaginians). The poets reflect on their collections and how particular poems came into being. They also share behind-the-scenes insights of their Prize experiences.

Visit the WritersMosaic webpage for links to the podcasts, available on Spotify, Apple and YouTube, and to read them in written form. Highly recommended!

Eliot Prize-winning poets including Sharon Olds, Don Paterson, Ocean Vuong, Bhanu Kapil, Anne Carson and Anthony Joseph talked to us about their Eliot Prize experiences as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations. Find the full range of articles here.
