Theodora Eliot Smith (1904–92) – ‘Dodo’ – daughter of George Lawrence and Charlotte E. Smith. A graduate of Vassar College (AB 1926), she studied too at Radcliffe College, 1926–7. She taught at Bryn Mawr School, Baltimore, from 1931, and attended summer school sessions at Cambridge University (1929, 1931, 1936, 1939); Oxford University (1937); London Speech Institute (1938), and Harvard (1940, 1941, 1942). TSE delighted in her company on each visit. Her sister was Charlotte Stearns Smith (b. 1911), known as ‘Chardy’.
