George Barker
(1913–91)
George Barker (1913–91), poet and author. His works include Thirty Preliminary Poems (1933), Alanna Autumnal (1933), Poems (1935), Calamiterror (1937), The True Confession of George Barker (1950), Collected Poems, ed. Robert Fraser (1987). With support from TSE, he became Professor of English Literature, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, 1939–40. His liaison with Elizabeth Smart is memorialised in her novel By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept (1945). See Barker, ‘A Note for T. S.
