S. Eliot Prize for Poetry recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, having been inaugurated in 1993 to mark the Poetry Book Society\u2019s 40th birthday and honour its founding poet. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/tseliot.com\/prize\/rewarding-poets-readers-and-audiences-30-years-of-the-t-s-eliot-prize-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>read former Director Chris Holifield\u2019s short history of the Prize\u2019s growth and development<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on this website.<\/p>\n<p>Described as \u2018the prize poets most want to win\u2019 (Sir Andrew Motion, former Poet Laureate) and \u2018the world\u2019s top poetry award\u2019 (<em>Independent<\/em>), it is awarded annually to the author of the best new collection of poetry published in the UK and Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The Prize is firmly established as the most valuable and prestigious in the UK for a new collection of poetry. It is distinctive among poetry prizes in being judged by a panel of established poets. In 2017, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Prize, the T. S. Eliot Estate increased the value of the Prize. The winner now receives \u00a325,000 and the ten shortlisted poets each receive \u00a31,500.<\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The T. S. Eliot Prize has been funded by the poet\u2019s estate since it was founded in 1993.\u00a0<\/span>The charity, the Poetry Book Society, which formerly ran the Prize, closed down in 2016, transferring the PBS, its membership and book club to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetrybooks.co.uk\/\">Inpress Ltd.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Contact the T.
