S. Eliot Foundation are pleased to announce that <strong>Courtney Faye Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>is the winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/poetrysociety.org\/about\/news\/courtney-faye-taylor-wins-2023-four-quartets-prize\">2023 Four Quartets Prize<\/a> for her collection <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/11580\/9781644452103\">Concentrate<\/a> <\/em>(Graywolf Press, 2022).<\/p>\n<p>She was selected by judges Terrance Hayes, Hoa Nguyen, and Geoffrey G. O\u2019Brien, who hailed her work as \u201ca statement of poetics as well as a vision of existential struggle . . . where the poet is detective and witness, poems as an accumulating series of lyric takes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judges also named\u00a0<strong>Brenda Hillman\u00a0<\/strong>for \u201cThe Sickness &amp; the World Soul\u201d from her collection<em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/11580\/9780819500151\">In a Few Minutes Before Later<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/11580\/9780819500151\">\u00a0<\/a>(Wesleyan University Press, 2022) and\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Ojeda-Sagu\u00e9\u00a0<\/strong>for his book\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/11580\/9781643621173\">Madness<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Nightboat Books, 2022).<\/p>\n<p>Courtney Faye Taylor will receive an award of $21,000, and each finalist will receive an award of $1,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Four Quartets Prize<\/strong>\u2014which was launched in 2018 on the 75th anniversary of the publication of T. S. Eliot\u2019s\u00a0<em>Four Quartets<\/em>\u00a0in a single volume, in America, in 1943\u2014is first and foremost a celebration of the multi-part poem, and is awarded to a unified and complete sequence of poems published in America in a print or online journal, chapbook, or book in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The judge&#8217;s citation on the Four Quartets Prize winner and biographies of the finalists can be found on the Poetry Society of America&#8217;s website <a href=\"https:\/\/poetrysociety.org\/about\/news\/courtney-faye-taylor-wins-2023-four-quartets-prize\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Poetry Society of America and the T.
